Rethinking how kids get around—for parents’ sanity and children’s freedom.
Getting kids out into their community to grow up as part of it. • Community pilot • Kingston, NY
Free Range Kingston is piloting a new way for small groups of kids to move through their community together.
Kids travel with a trusted adult to activities, parks, pools, classes, community spaces—and places they discover along the way.
Via pedal-power, walking, and public transit, we're exploring whether shared mobility can give kids more independence, friendship, discovery, and connection to their town while making life a little easier for caregivers.
Built for kids and their caregivers
Kids need room to discover their world. Caregivers need room in their lives.
Afterschool hours, weekends, and summers are when kids can discover passions, friendships, independence, and a sense of place. But getting children to all the people and places that make those experiences possible takes enormous time and coordination.
We're exploring whether kids can have more freedom and connection without adding more logistical burden to family life.
Something shifts when kids can move through their city— without their parents but with a trusted adult.
Parents regain time for work, rest, and community participation.
Local programs gain access to new participants.
Employers get more focused work done.
Kids build independence, friendships, and a sense of place.
